DWG Compatability with AutoCAD Versions?

I am producing detail drawings in Acad LT 2002 and sending them to my customer by e-mail. He has AutoCAD 2000, and when he tries to plot my .dwg files they are generating 48Mb spool files which his plotting system cannot handle. On my system the spool files are approx 2 to 5Mb. Is this a known compatabity problem?
